Getting started

Bring your customers, vendors and products over

Import the lists you have in your old accounting app or a spreadsheet, so you don't type them again.

  1. 1Export the list from your old app as a CSV file: open its customer (or vendor, or products) list, choose Export, and save the file as CSV.
  2. 2In TallyPip, open [Import data](/import) (the gear menu › Tools, or Import customers next to New customer).
  3. 3Choose what you're importing and the file. TallyPip matches the columns from their headings; change any that are wrong.
  4. 4Check the preview and the rows that won't go in (with the reason), then press Import.

Names already in TallyPip are skipped, so importing the same file twice is safe. Addresses, phones, emails, terms and 1099 tracking come along; products keep their price and, when the account names match, their income and expense accounts.

Open balances aren't imported. Add what customers still owe as invoices, and what you owe as bills, so the payments match up later.

Bank transactions come in from [Bank transactions](/banking) › Upload transactions instead.
